I’m a fiction writer and educator from the American West.

I was born in St. George, Utah, among epic landscapes and complex histories that continue to shape my life and work. After finishing degrees at Yale University and Bank Street College of Education, I spent seven years as an elementary school teacher, developing project-based curriculum and excessive enthusiasm for Catherine Called Birdy, before earning my MFA from Johns Hopkins University. These days, I live and teach in Oakland, California, where I am also working on a novel and a short story collection. You can find my work in Gulf Coast, New Ohio Review and The Masters Review.
